Recycling has been a hot topic for the 21st century. As everyone is trying their best to keep the earth healthy, as a designer, the least I can do is to reuse abandoned shipping containers to give them a second life. Most shipping containers are designed to last at least 25 years without maintenance, and most companies tend to depreciate their containers over a period of 10 to 12 years. After giving these unwanted shipping containers a new coat of paint, they can easily last an extra 10 to 15 years on top of the original lifespan.
Given the nature of the containers, they are built to take strong impacts during the shipping journey. The materials used are tough and robust and the structural integrity is safe and sound as it is. With some cosmetic improvement, the unwanted metal box will become a fun and interesting extra room in our garden or backyard.
